Children in the Pre-K classroom are enjoying a routine of structured activities and free choice time. The children in pre-K are actively making decisions about their day and taking care of their classroom. Learning to interact positively with peers and adults is one of the most important accomplishments for our four and five year olds. Our classroom is set up similarly to a kindergarten class with activity centers to inspire play. In the home center children can pretend, dress-up, and create long dramas and stories. The block area has an assortment of building materials and props to build independently or with their friends. A science table displays interesting materials to explore. Games and craft projects are more challenging to match the skills in this age group. Outside children can work at developing new large motor skills such as climbing, skipping, and shooting baskets.
The schedule is balanced with free choice time in centers and structured group activities. We believe in providing a stimulating environment with clear expectations for play and use of materials as a way to prevent undesirable behaviors.
