Kids Corner Infant Care

(6 weeks to 12 months of age)

Our home-like atmosphere offers an environment that is familiar and creates a sense of warmth. Tremendous growth takes place during a child’s first year. Most importantly, infants are beginning to develop a sense of trust and attachment. By employing consistent and skilled caregivers, we help infants to bond and feel secure. Our teachers are committed in getting to know each infant’s personal needs and signals intimately.  We feel infants should be allowed to follow their own rhythms for feeding and napping, rather than as dictated by a schedule. We have two caregivers for a maximum of eight infants. Our teachers make daily routines such as feeding and diaper changing a social and teaching opportunity. You will often see our teachers down at the child’s level, holding them or sitting on the floor to interact with them. Conversation and responding verbally to infants is an important part of socialization, language development and bonding. We have a nursing consultant visit the center once a month to offer assistance to our teachers in promoting proper health and development.

Kids Corner provides diapers and wipes, but we do ask that parents provide pre-made bottles of formula. When your infant is ready for table food, the center will provide meals and snacks. Bedding such as crib sheets and blankets are available at the center. If you prefer, you may bring your own familiar blanket from home. Each day our teachers will fill out a report on your child’s day. Information on this report includes the time and amount of each feeding, length of naps, frequency of diaper changes, and any other information that you may need or want to know.

Kids Corner Waddler Care

(12 to 18 months of age)

The Waddler classroom is spacious and allows the toddlers freedom to explore. Our adult to child ratio is one teacher per seven children. The small group of seven children provides an atmosphere with minimal distractions, and enables the teacher to be available to satisfy each child’s needs while engaging in close interactions. Our young toddlers in this group are developing rapidly and have plenty of opportunities to climb, slide and ride on indoor gross motor equipment. A variety of interesting toys are accessible to the children. Our teachers encourage exploration and provide familiar routines by following a schedule of planned activities. Enjoying music is a part of their daily activities. Art is offered as a physical and sensory experience, as the emphasis is on the process of creating. We have an outdoor area for toddlers to enjoy if the weather permits.

Nutritious meals are prepared on site by our full time cook. We offer milk and other fluids in a toddler cup and encourage parents to also make the transition from the bottle to a cup. Parents are asked to supply a full change of clothing, diapers and wipes. We have blankets and sheets here at the center, unless you prefer to bring one from home that your child is familiar with. Each day a daily report will be filled out for your child. This is one way we communicate to parents about your child’s day, such as how well they ate, frequency of diaper changes, length of nap, and any other information you may need or want to know.

Kids Corner Pre-Toddler Care

(18 to 24 months of age)

Pre-toddlers need opportunities to explore, be
responsible and make significant choices. They view the world with wonder and look to their caregivers for guidance. Developmentally appropriate activities are planned weekly. The pre-toddler group enjoy books and songs, dancing, and art on a daily basis. The class is set up with centers that interest toddlers. A home center with child sized furniture and props are available for toddlers to pretend and role play. A variety of toys are accessible on low shelves to encourage toddlers to choose independently. A small, indoor climber gives an opportunity for them to slide and climb. Music, art, small group time and outdoor time are part of the daily routine. Following a daily schedule gives children a sense of security.

Our teachers understand that young ones don’t always understand verbal messages and depend on their teachers to model and establish familiar routines. A daily report is written for each child, each day they attend. This gives parents information on how well their child ate, length of nap and any other information a parent may want or need to know.

Kids Corner Toddler Care

(24 to 30 months of age)

Toddlers are very interested in their peers and look forward to seeing the familiar faces of friends each day. Their attention span is beginning to increase and the activities in the Toddler group reflect their new skills. More time is spent doing activities together as a group, such as playing with play-dough or creating a finger painting. Our toddler teachers offer challenging activities and guide them in positive ways. The classroom is organized with centers for play such as a home living area and block center with various manipulative toys to create, build, and work with a friend. Toddlers begin to want to do things for themselves, and make choices. A variety of toys are accessible to the children, on low shelves.

We encourage the children to take care of their classroom by putting the toys away before a new activity begins. We begin potty training in the Toddler classroom however, it is not a requirement for them to be potty trained before graduating to the preschool class. The teachers will fill out a daily report for each child. This gives parents information on how well their child ate, diaper changes or toilet training progress, the length of their nap, and any other information that may be helpful to know.

Kids Corner Pre-Schooler Care

(2 ½ to 4 years of age)

Children are eligible to join our preschool group when they are two and a half years of age and able to benefit from a larger class size. Preschool children are natural explorers. They are eager to find out how things work and why. In preschool, children are beginning to learn to share and play cooperatively. Friendships are becoming a cooperative effort and parents will enjoy hearing about their child’s emerging friendships. Our preschool group offers a variety of independent and small group activities. Pre-reading and pre-writing skills are learned through play. When children color they are developing coordination for writing. Listening to stories gives children an appreciation for books and language. Pre-math skills such as sorting, counting, estimating and number recognition are introduced informally through play.

The classroom is spacious with activity centers, such as a home center with child-sized furniture and props. A book area is provided with cozy pillows to sit on and enjoy a good book. A block area with wooden unit blocks, cars, plastic animals, and other building toys gives children an opportunity to create and imagine. A writing center is available for children who might appreciate a structured introduction to learning pencil control. Activities are planned on a weekly basis and revolve around the theme of the week. Children are able to enjoy experiences outside while developing muscles and coordination skills when the weather permits.

Kids Corner Pre-K Care

(4 to 5 years of age)

Children in the Pre-K classroom are enjoying a routine of structured activities and free choice time. The children in pre-K are actively making decisions about their day and taking care of their classroom. Learning to interact positively with peers and adults is one of the most important accomplishments for our four and five year olds. Our classroom is set up similarly to a kindergarten class with activity centers to inspire play. In the home center children can pretend, dress-up, and create long dramas and stories. The block area has an assortment of building materials and props to build independently or with their friends. A science table displays interesting materials to explore. Games and craft projects are more challenging to match the skills in this age group. Outside children can work at developing new large motor skills such as climbing, skipping, and shooting baskets.

The schedule is balanced with free choice time in centers and structured group activities. We believe in providing a stimulating environment with clear expectations for play and use of materials as a way to prevent undesirable behaviors.

Kids Corner School-Age Care

(5 to 12 years of age)

In our school age program we provide care for children 5 to 12 years of age. Creative play is encouraged as the teachers participate with the children and respond to their individual needs and interests. Before school breakfast is served to those who arrive by 7:00, followed by a free choice play period. After school, children can share information about their day at school, have a nutritious snack, and plan their afternoon of fun. Special projects based on the theme of the week are offered to inspire play. A variety of materials such as arts and crafts, dramatic play, air hockey, foosball, board and video games are available. Twice a year the school age kids put on a dramatic play to present to the younger classes and parents who are able to attend. Our building is spacious with plenty of natural light. The maximum group size is 25 children. When more that 15 children are present, an assistant is available.
